Thoroughly Modern Miffy

Celebrating 50 years of Miffy books: An exhibition of Dick Bruna's Silkscreen editions, 20 February - 1 March
Gallery event & book launch: Saturday 1 March 2.30-4.30pm featuring Tony Mitton

Illustrationcupboard Gallery is delighted to celebrate 50 years of Miffy books with an exhibition of Dick Bruna's design-orientated pop-art Miffy silk-screens. These much sought signed and numbered editions are limited to 75 of each, many of which have now been sold. This exhibit offers collectors an opportunity to see and acquire the last few editions available. We are fortunate to have been allowed to show them here in London.

Alongside the exhibit we will be celebrating the book launch of the freshly -re-published original books, Miffy, Miffy at the Zoo and Miffy at the Gallery with a family afternoon on Saturday 1 March, 2.30 - 4.30pm featuring the author Tony Mitton. Activities for children and refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.

For the first time in 50 years, the English translations of the classic Miffy stories, written and illustrated by Dutch graphic artist, Dick Bruna, have been updated to appeal to a modern British audience. These iconic books were first published in the UK in 1963, and feature the little white bunny enjoying universal childhood experiences. The Miffy books have sold over 85 million copies since first publication and have been translated into 50 languages. Miffy will be celebrating her 60th Birthday in 2015. Award-winning UK poet, Tony Mitton, has worked closely with Dick Bruna’s Dutch publisher to create new translations for the classic Miffy stories that are true to the books’ original voice, and yet have a contemporary feel to the language that makes them appealing to the modern young audience. The translations beautifully convey the warmth and friendliness of the original Dutch whilst maintaining a style that is inimitably Miffy.
